Young Vyan’s story
Vyan is a 14 years-old Kurdish girl from Duhok, Kurdistan-Iraq, who suffers from a cardiac malformation.
Vyan’s father died, and the girl now lives in a refugee camp, where she shares a tent with the rest of her family.
She cannot be treated there, as there aren’t any specialised doctors and healthcare facilities.
The departure
Through the non-profit organisation Ana Moise, specialised in paediatric health, Vyan’s story reaches Flying Angels as a request for help. The young girl needs help to quickly reach Gaslini Hospital, in Genova, which is ready to welcome and treat her.
Surgery
On November 2nd 2021, Vyan finally lands in Italy with her mom.
They have close to no luggage, and very few clothes, so volunteers offer their help and assistance during their stay.
After all the necessary procedures, Vyan is admitted to hospital and undergoes a delicate surgery: a cardiac catheterization.
Back home
The surgery seems to be successful and, after spending some time in intensive care, Vyan responds well to the treatments.
She recovers slowly but steadily after her surgery, she gets better day by day, and in December she is ready to go back home with her mom.
